Marguerite L. Black was born November 25, 1925, near Selden, Kansas, to Joseph and Elsie (Kober) Maddock. She passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas, at the age of 86.

Marguerite grew up on the family farm near Selden. She graduated from Rexford High School.

She married Harvey Jack May Jr. in 1946. One son, Randall, was born to their union. Marguerite later married Andrew John "Andy" Black on September 28, 1954, in Tucumcari, New Mexico. They made their home in Rexford. Two more children joined the family, John and Julie.

For many years, Marguerite cooked for the Golden Plains Middle/High School and Rexford Cafe. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, thrift shops, writing letters and socializing.

Andy and Marguerite moved to Hays in 2008 to live with their daughter. Andy passed away February 4, 2009, at his daughter's home. Marguerite eventually moved to the Epworth Towers and most recently to the Good Samaritan Society in Hays.

Survivors include her three children and daughter-in-law, Randall and Cheryl May, of Plano, Texas, and John Black and Julie Black, both of Hays; four grandchildren, Adam May and wife Mandy, of Acton, Massachusetts, Amy (May) Ploutz and husband John, of Chesterfield, Missouri, Jamie Zerr and wife Janae, of Oak Grove, Kentucky, and Jeff Zerr, of Hays; other relatives and friends.

Memorial Service: Saturday, July 28, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at the Rexford Community Church. Pastor Lane Purcell will officiate.

Burial: Rexford Cemetery

Memorial Funds: Dreiling-Schmidt Cancer Center, Hays Medical Center Hospice or donor's choice

Visitation: There will be no visitation
